WordPress on Heroku

My old webpage can be found here.

This new page uses WordPress and is being hosted on Heroku.

Installing WordPress on Heroku is a bit of a challenge. This is mostly caused by the fact that Heroku doesn’t let apps modify the disk in any way. There is a great git project (wordpress-heroku) that uses Amazon S3 and Heroku’s PostgreSQL system to get around this hurdle. I run the dev server on Amazon EC2, but after pushing to Heroku, the dev server can be shutdown keeping the total cost of running this webpage under $1 per month. You may notice a slight lag when first loading a page on this site. This is due to the fact that apps on Heroku’s free tier enter a sleep mode if they haven’t received an http request in 1 hour.
